Tallahassee Trip- Essay Contest

Our office is preparing a learning opportunity for our District 3 high school students in the form of an educational fieldtrip experience to Tallahassee, Florida. Selected students will have the opportunity to meet with elected officials and observe the Florida Capitol during the legislative session.

To be selected, students must complete a 500-word essay on the following topic: “Why the right to vote is important” (the essay must be written in MLA style rules for formatting and citing research sources).

Students must include a cover sheet containing their name, email address, a phone number, and school name. The final submission must be emailed to district3@dadeschools.net by January 21st at 11:59pm. To ensure fair participation, we will be running all essays through an internal system to check for plagiarism to ensure original work.

This opportunity is open to District 3 high school students with a minimum of 2.0 GPA. A parent/student preparation session will be mandatory.  The trip is set to occur during the first week in February.

I kindly ask that you share this information with your students. We look forward to receiving applications from all our District 3 high schools and to taking students who have a profound interest in law, policy, advocacy, business, etc.

Thank you,

Lucia Baez-Geller
